In Lethbridge, Alberta, is a reproduction of Fort Hamilton which became known as Fort Whoop-Up when two Montana traders moved to the area and set up the fort to trade with the natives. Buffalo hides for contraband whiskey, firearms, and ammo. Their fort was only one of 26 "whiskey forts".
Because of the above and that the US flag flew over their fort which was in Canadian territory, North-West Mounted Police were organized and came to co-occupy the fort.
