Hot and Cold

We've got power to the hot water heater – hot shower!  ... 

Well, guess we are waiting for a door on the shower. 

And the gas stove is installed – 

that would keep us warm but it is 75 degrees outside

If it does get hot, we can cool off because the heat pump does also does cool.

Everything is partially done.  Re-landscaping is hardly done.  
But things are moving way way fast!

The Castle has a Throne

Yes, thrones have been installed.  Plural ... in separate rooms.

These have been extensively tested and have passed perfectly.  (Or is that more than you wished to know? :0) )

Almost all a home needs, huh?

Ready Set Go

All appliances have been delivered and set into space.  Hmmm – does that mean we are getting close to a "different" set of chores: like cooking and washing of dishes and clothes?  Maybe. 

It is sure nice to have all these hooked up and we are having fun testing their capabilities. 

And it is so nice to be able to do laundry (can't believe I said that) at home.

All appliances are plugged in but not in their final placement.  
In certain rooms we are awaiting finish carpenters.  It all takes time. 

We are so ready to have all the contractors go home!
But stay tuned, we are in countdown mode.  

While the cats away...

Our days are so long – we work outside until the contractors leave between 5 and 7pm then we go inside the new house and note all the changes and pick up.  

So when the weekend comes along....ha!... It's time for us to go in and make the house even more our own.

This weekend we installed medicine cabinets in the master bath, 

blue protective "skin" comes off when all work is done

 his and her bed reading track lights,

bed goes between the two wall switches

guest bath mirror, 

and kitchen bar lights.

And, yes, it took us the whole weekend!  Something we expect the contractors could knock off in 3 hours.  But we get a lot of satisfaction doing this. 

Now we are getting to the real fun part!

It's been busy here this past week.  Cabinets were installed.  Then right after that came the countertops and the floor vinyl.  

Most of the woodwork: interior doors, baseboards, windowsills and closet shelves and rods have been installed as well as many of the light fixtures. 

This place looks like it is almost ready to be moved into.  We've even got flowers thanks to our buddies.

Hmm – what's missing?  Suppose we have to have things built like steps and porches and sidewalks?  We're working on it. 
.

Next week the house gets a breathalyzer  (!!!???), rest of the woodwork and doors installed, cabinet pulls, appliances, plumbing.  
.
That still leaves attic insulation, under-cabinet lighting, appliance and heat pump installation and a bunch of other stuff that we don't even know now that we need.
.

People keep asking when is the move-in date.  We haven't a clue.....but we are certainly getting closer....

Raking Rocks

I always tease my Cave Creek, AZ friend of doing her gardening by raking the rocks in her desert landscaping.  
.
I'm sure she doesn't appreciate what REALLY raking the rocks means.  Here on Rocky Point we have more than our share.  These rock pile collage is of rocks mostly 4" plus.  
.
I'm sure I can do something creative with them!  

A place to put things

We planned and hoped that the cabinets that we designed would work out as desired and that all would fit and they would be useful and the color would be as we chose. 
.

Today they arrived and is as we hoped!

Not all cabinets are installed yet and if will be another week we think before the formica is installed but we are getting the general idea and it is great.  We are so excited we can't wait to "load the drawers"!

Lights, Plugs, Action!

Things are moving very quickly.

Interior was painted and the next day the electrician came in to 
install fixtures and plugs and to activate all circuits.  

Let there be light!

What a nice job the electrician does.  All the screws are lined up!

The next day the solar tube gang was here and added to our light!

In the meantime, we were busy with "Tractor Work".  See next blog.

Tractor Work

Yes, our guy could have done this ...maybe.  But having someone come in that has had 40 years experience playing around with his tractor worked out wonderfully.

Sam Sam, the Tractor Man

Our Rocky Point dirt had turned into hardpan.  The only way I could get it moved was with pick and shovel.  Sam came and in 3 hours tilled the "soil".  He had to limit the depth of his tiller as the hardpan was tearing his equipment apart!  2 inches at a time and 3 passes made for a very nice loose soil for us to shape for drainage and gardens.
