NUDIES!

Somehow, I got involved in painting people for this park’s G Scale railroad that Dean works here in Arizona.  Not sure I volunteered and pretty sure I didn’t know what I was doing but away I went. 

The “Chief Engineer” for the railroad ordered 100!!! ONE HUNDRED scale model people (approx. 3 ½”) to be painted.  OMG.  They said they had paints.  Yep, tan, black, and gray.  So needed to get some brighter color and paint brushes smaller than the 1” paint brushes they had.  Thank goodness AMAZON had that that at the ready and the kit was here in a couple days. 

These “nude” train people were really nylon people with formed clothing meant to be standing at streets or stations or sitting in a passenger car.  Dresses and suits.

Their eye sockets were smaller than the end of a toothpick – worried and redid the eyes a number of times before Dean said at 15 feet away nobody will see the eyes….guess that is true.  Mostly they now look like they are wearing dark sunglasses.  😊

 

The “Assistant Chief Engineer” wanted "workers" for the industrial area of the complex and also needed make-believe “gandydancers” to work the railroad so a number of the molded suit wearers were painted to be in full body coveralls.  Unfortunately, no hardhats for the poor workers.  In fact, nobody had hats – gotta wear a hat in Arizona.

Job got a bit boring.  Probably 8 of each mold and I didn’t want them all to look like a cheerleader team in the same color.  Of course, all nylon people were approximately “white” American so I worked on adding a few black Americans.

Once all were dry.  I sprayed sealant on them and then for the standees I glued them to a 2x3 piece of plastic to keep them upright.

I think the Valle Del Oro Railroad may come up with more people to paint next year.  Not that my skill was so great - it's just that 15 feet away RR-lookers can't see my mistakes!
