Feeding the Birds

You know us. We just love to watch the birds and the squirrels. We spent a couple weeks up at Usery Mountain County Park doing just that. Of course, we also made time for hikes, the high hike up to the Wind Cave, and various visits with friends in the area.

Statistics: 4 bird feeders, plus 1 suet block, 1 finch thistle sock, and 1 hummingbird feeder. We also had a corn cob suspended for leaping squirrels and lots of shelled peanuts for them to take out of our hand.

Used 70 pounds of bird seed, 4 suet blocks, 20 ears of corn, and 7lbs of peanuts tossed. Our RV is much lighter!

Temps were "cooler than usual". We've heard that everywhere we've been this year. Did have one day in the high 70's - got lots of sun that day.

Usery is our turn-around point for this winter's travel. Now to avoid the snow and spring winds!

Sickie!

Poor Dean has had the sniffles, coughing and hacking and sputting, four times this winter. Here at Usery he has spent several afernoons sitting in the sun soaking up rays. There has been lots of sun - just not much warmth. Sometimes I hear little snoring sounds coming from his direction.

He has to be real careful not to leave his nice "peanut" shaped fingers down for the squirrels to nibble on. Even while he is snoozing the squirrels will climb up his leg and go get a peanut stashed in the cup holder of his chair.
