On the way home we stopped for a spell in front of our cousin's Kingman house.
Nice visits and some exploration locally.
We enjoyed the Route 66 Museum in town because,
of course, we were on Route 66 (or what remains of it) in Arizona.
There was lots of memorabilia and history
on the original survey and chosen layout of the road.
We learned about the "Okies" who moved across country
during the depression and the drought (a la Grapes of Wrath).
The count was over 200,000 that made their way west along Route 66 during that time. Contrary to popular beliefs only 8% of those who migrated stayed. The rest made their way back to the midwest.
