It is great to get over the Sierra Nevada Range into the cooler and greener country. Even evergreen trees!
We overnighted in Nevada City, California, and took a long ride through the mining area of the 1850's California Gold Rush.
Hydraulic mining was done here for nearly 40 years washing gravel and silt down the streams. We were surprised that we didn't see any scarring in the area we traveled. We were told we would need to head up on some dirt roads to see some old "diggins" (not this time).
We did find a place where people came to enjoy the Yuba River.

There's no more traveling over the Bridgeport Covered Bridge. It was built in 1862 over the South Yuba River. It is 233' long with a clear span of 210' and is the longest-span wooden covered bridge still surviving.
