Wuppa wuppa wuppa! This sound woke us up one morning in Usery Park. There right out of our window we could see the helicopters hovering near the top of Pass Mountain.
Get out of bed and run to the sight? Nope. We turned on the TV and caught it "live" looking at the screen instead of out of the window. (Ultimate in laziness!)
This fellow started hiking up the mountain -- alone -- at 6:45 pm the night before. After sunset. He fell (well, duh) and injured his leg. He was able to call friends by cell. By 10:30 the emergency rescue crews were on scene but it took them until midnight to pick their way up the mountain to him. The crew couldn't find a way to rescue this fellow by litter at night so they spent the rest of the night with the hiker waiting until sunrise for the helicopter rescue.
These rescues are done for free today. These kind of incidents have people talking about instituting a "Stupid Hiker Law".
