The park has 3 campgrounds; Calliham campground is high on our favorite places list.
This area of Texas has had a few good year's of rain and this reservoir is much higher than when we were last here. The former savanna behind our campsite is now mostly lake. Many water birds but not as many at-site wildlife sightings.
But the animals are all still there.
The deer and the javalinas and the wild turkeys and cardinals.
The turkeys wander about the park and at the exact moment between dusk and dark, they fly (hop) straight up to the top of trees for the night (30' up). The unwieldy fliers and the light branches they perch on looks pretty precarious but keeps them safe from nighttime predators.
As we travel down to the higher humidity Gulf coast we see more and more "air plants" (Epiphyte bromeliad). Funny to see them along the power lines. The winds knock them down out of the trees and lines.
