Whew! Made it through Kansas without experiencing one of those things with 7 letters that start with a T and end with an O. Had wind all the time and often a very heavy wind. Couple days of rain and a couple days of hot sun and temps in the 90's. Lots of plowing going on getting ready to plant corn (we guess). We saw lots of water in the form of lakes.
We also saw falling down barns, topless silos, abandoned farmhouses and windmills that had lost all their blades. We weren't able to find people to talk to us about tornados (they'd rather ask us about earthquakes) or anything about the dust bowl.
And we finally found the end of Coronado's trek of 1541 for the 7 Cities of Gold in Quivira at Lyon's.
The Kansasian's pronounce things strangely (to us, anyhow). The Arkansas River is pronounced "R Kansas" and Salina is pronounced "Sa Lie Na".
We think every downtown that we traveled through had red (not yellow) brick roads. Interesting to be driving the heavy RV over the bricks (a-calunk a-calunk). Many places in other states, heavy vehicles are directed away from the brick streets.
