Following the Yellow Brick Road in Liberal, Kansas

There really isn't a particular town that Dorothy & Toto came from.  Just that the setting of THE WIZARD OF OZ is in Kansas.  Well, thought the city fathers, why not have Dorothy live in Liberal. 

And it works pretty good.  They choose a high school girl each year to be "Dorothy" and represent Liberal with appearances at parades and other public gatherings.  (Our tour guide says that high schoolers these days are "beyond" being a Dorothy and are not too interested in doing public appearances.  Maybe they need to choose a junior high girl?)

I went on a tour of the Liberal Wizard of Oz display just because it was there.  It was perfect because a little "Dorothy" about 5 was on the tour and her most favorite movie is THE WIZARD OF OZ.  She has seen it 50 times and she was jumping up and down the whole tour she was so excited!

First we were taken through a small furnished house.  A nice display with a number of antiques.  Note the dog bed for Toto and ruby slippers beside Dorothy's bed. 

In another building we followed the yellow brick road past scenes from the movie.  This little girl could almost recite the dialogue! 

We saw the scarecrow and the wicked witch and the wizard.  And the lion and the tin man.  There were ruby slippers and munchkins and Toto. 

Just perfect for little Dorothy!

One more great thing about having a "place" for Dorothy's house is that the Munchkins have used this as a place for annual reunions for many years. Alas, there is only one left.
