Walls!

Things are happening quicker and quicker.  In a week we passed 7 inspections.  The inspector said the next inspection (at least a month or two off) will be the FINAL INSPECTION!  (Interpretion: "we can move in")  

So rough-in plumbing, wiring, gas, and furnace inspections are done.  As well as framing and insulation.  And finally drywall.  Drywall!  That means walls!

It was glorious to walk through the rooms and visualize the layout of furniture in each place.

The day after the drywall was complete, the piles of extra cuttings were gone.

The day after that the mud and taping crew of 8 arrived on site.  They papered the floor of the whole house and started making a mess.  Slap on mud (joint compound) on every crack and nail hole and tape every joint.  Now there is lots of mud on the papered floor.  

Then the crew goes away for a day or two until the mud is dry and then they do it again.

Truly - this is a 3 step process.  We are on step 2.  

Next, the the finish crew comes in to put on a textured surface.  When this dries, finally the interior painter can come in and do his job.  

I had never realized how time-consuming this part of the house-building process is.  Effectively, the interior of the house is off-limits.  

Maybe, just maybe, the interior painting can be done by next week.  That would be very nice as all this mess would be picked up.
