One of our (unproven) theories is to wander into the fresh water of Seattle (Lakes Union and Washington) to get rid of any saltwater critters that have managed to take hold of our hull while we were out this summer. So we traveled into the locks on Labor Day weekend while all the lake people were heading out. With a few days of non-planned activities we were able to explore a few places in-depth by dinghy.

One place being Lake Union. So much activity there with many marinas and many boats heading to the locks, tour boats, rental electric boats and kayaks, and WATCH OUT! the seaplanes use this as a base too.
Some pretty bodacious yachts hang out here too.
This one has a baby blue hull.
On the north end of Lake Union is Gas Works Park.
These steel structures were used to create gas for city lights from burning coal brought by train. No longer needed and to our good fortune those old tracks have been pulled to create the 17 mile Burke-Gilman bike trail.
This time I took lots of pictures of the funky barge homes all around this area. I like to imagine living in these. I'd definitely want one that faced out into the lake. Less protected from the weather but the view is terrific.
Hard to tell but under Homer is a Cruise-A-Home hull. A friend of ours took the original house off and added his own two story abode. Great views from the upper story.
This belongs to the owner of Fremont Tug Company which is just across the waterway from his home. Great way to keep an eye on business!
Each of these homes have their own personal funkiness.
Our home this weekend has been Queen City Yacht Club in Portage Bay. Close by the freeway but not too noisy. We watched lots of purple shirts walking by on the shore going to the UofW football game. And many many boats heading toward the stadium.
We listened to the game by radio but heard the roar live from the stadium!

With the 10th anniversary of 9/11 coming up, we are being warned to look out for small plane activity. Surprising us was this small plane which landed in Portage Bay amongst all the congestion and turned into a marina. Watch out kayakers and paddle boarders!
